A concours is a competitive entrance examination administered by a public university, professional school, or ministry. Unlike GCE, which certifies that you completed secondary education, a concours selects a limited number of candidates for admission into a specific programme. Engineering concours select candidates for national polytechnic schools and faculty-level engineering programmes. Major institutions include:
- ENSP Yaoundé (Polytechnique Yaoundé): flagship national engineering school; highly competitive; strong emphasis on Mathematics and Physics

Teacher Training: ENS Concours
The Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) trains secondary school teachers through scholarship-funded programmes at campuses in Yaoundé, Bambili, and Maroua. The DIPES II concours targets GCE A Level holders and is open across science, humanities, and language disciplines.
The ENS examination typically includes five written papers: main subject, second subject, general culture, language (French or English), and an oral for shortlisted candidates. Science candidates often underestimate the general culture and language papers, which can cost several merit-list positions.
