For A Level History, the most consistently tested topics across all years of GCE History past questions are the pre-colonial history of Cameroon and West Africa (political organisation, trade routes, and kingdoms), the colonial period (European partition of Africa, German and Franco-British rule in Cameroon), the independence movements (nationalist politics, the role of the UPC, federation and reunification), post-independence developments in Cameroon and Africa, and major events in 20th century world history (World War I, World War II, the Cold War, decolonisation). Questions on colonialism and the independence struggle appear in virtually every past paper.

For essay writing in A Level History, every answer must follow a clear structure: introduction with a thesis statement, body paragraphs each making one argument supported by specific historical evidence, and a conclusion that evaluates the overall argument. Never write a list of facts. Every paragraph must have a point (argument), evidence (specific historical facts, dates, names), and analysis (what the evidence proves). Essays that contain only narration, with no argument or evaluation, consistently score in the lowest band.

For O Level History, concentrate on African history from the pre-colonial period through to independence, the history of Cameroon, and elements of world history. O Level rewards factual accuracy, clear chronological organisation, and well-supported points rather than complex evaluation.
