About the Exam

The École Nationale Supérieure des Travaux Publics in Yaoundé trains civil engineers for public works — roads, bridges, hydraulics and the built infrastructure the ministry depends on. It is a francophone grande école, and the concours is set accordingly: mathematics, physics and technical drawing at a competitive standard.

ENSTP is frequently confused with ENSP, the Polytechnique in Yaoundé. They are different schools with different concours and different intakes. If you are searching for épreuves and finding papers that do not match what you expected, check which of the two you are actually preparing for — our Polytechnique Yaoundé page covers ENSP separately.

The examination runs in two streams. MEng covers the engineering entry, and MArch the architecture entry; the mathematics is common ground but the papers diverge, so practise against the stream you are entering rather than whichever papers you find first.

Requirements and Timeline

Strong mathematics and physics are expected — GCE Advanced Level for anglophone candidates, the Baccalauréat série C, D or E for francophone candidates. Age and nationality conditions are set by MINESUP and published with each session’s notice, so confirm them from the official announcement rather than a previous year’s copy.

Technical drawing is the section candidates most often underestimate. It is not a test of artistic skill; it is a test of whether you can read and produce a plan quickly and cleanly. That comes from repetition under time, and from nothing else.

Work in the language of the paper. ENSTP is a francophone school. Anglophone candidates who have revised entirely in English lose time translating terminology in the hall — practise with French-language material well before the exam.

Use the mathematics you already have. The analysis, integration and mechanics tested here overlap heavily with the GCE Pure Mathematics and Further Mathematics papers, which are free on this site.

ENSTP News

The École Nationale Supérieure des Travaux Publics is a public institution in Yaoundé under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education. It recruits by competitive examination each year across its engineering and architecture streams.

Registration dates, eligibility conditions and the number of places are announced per session. Take them from the official notice — they change, and a figure from a previous year is not a guide to the current one.
