Medical Concours Cameroon: Complete Preparation Guide

The medical concours in Cameroon is one of the most competitive entrance examinations in Central Africa. Thousands of students compete each year for limited places at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMSB) at the University of Yaoundé I, the Faculty of Health Sciences in Douala, and other medical training institutions. This page provides past questions, subject breakdowns, preparation timelines, and study strategies for medical concours candidates. Browse all concours resources on the Cameroon concours hub and strengthen your GCE foundation with free GCE past questions.

FMSB entry process. The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Yaoundé I is the primary destination for medical concours candidates in Cameroon. Entry requires strong GCE Advanced Level results in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, followed by success in the competitive entrance examination. The concours tests these three science subjects at A Level standard plus general knowledge and sometimes French language proficiency. Candidates must register during the official application window, submit certified GCE results and birth certificates, and sit the written examination at designated centres.

Subject breakdown: Biology, Chemistry, Physics. Biology carries the highest weight in most medical concours papers. Questions cover cell biology, genetics, human physiology, ecology, and biochemistry at A Level depth. Chemistry tests organic chemistry, equilibrium, and practical calculation skills including titration problems. Physics covers mechanics, electricity, waves, and thermal physics. Allocate revision time proportionally: approximately forty percent Biology, thirty-five percent Chemistry, and twenty-five percent Physics based on typical mark distributions across recent concours papers.

Preparation timeline. Three months before the concours: complete diagnostic past papers in all three subjects and identify your five weakest topics. Six weeks before: shift to daily timed practice with one full subject paper every two days. Two weeks before: review only your mistake log and sit two full mock concours simulations under examination conditions. One week before: light revision only, focus on sleep and nutrition. Do not cram new topics in the final week.

Use the Practice Center in the eStudyUniverse app for medical concours preparation with timed simulations, AI tutor explanations for Biology and Chemistry questions, and offline access to downloaded past papers.
