At O Level, GCE ICT introduces students to hardware, software, data communication, file management, and everyday applications of digital technology. How to Score High Using GCE ICT Past Questions

GCE ICT past questions from 2010 to present follow predictable patterns that reward students who understand both technical content and its practical application. Here is the method that works.

For A Level ICT, the most consistently tested topics across all years of GCE ICT past questions are systems analysis and design (SDLC phases, DFDs, entity relationship diagrams, system flowcharts), database management (normalisation to 3NF, SQL basics, queries, forms and reports), networking (LAN and WAN, topologies, protocols, internet services), data communication (transmission modes, error detection, bandwidth), software types and operating systems, and ICT applications in business (e commerce, ERP, MIS). These topics appear across nearly every past paper. Prioritise them above all others.

For case study questions in GCE ICT past questions, read the scenario very carefully before answering. Every mark in a case study question must connect back to the specific scenario you were given. Generic answers that do not reference the case study context score poorly. Write: “In this scenario, the company would benefit from [ICT solution] because [specific reason from the case].”

For short answer and definition questions in GCE ICT past questions, precision matters enormously. The difference between a full mark answer and a half mark answer is often one specific technical word. Always include the key technical term and explain its practical significance.

For O Level ICT, concentrate on input and output devices, storage types (primary, secondary, tertiary), types of software (application, system, utility), network types (LAN, WAN, MAN), internet services, data handling, spreadsheets, and word processing. O Level ICT rewards clear, complete definitions and well labelled diagrams.
