This page sets out the official statistics for the 2026 GCE Advanced Level session in full: national pass rates, performance by school type, by region, and by every subject, together with what the numbers mean if you are holding a 2026 slip.
The headline is that Advanced Level performance fell sharply. The pass rate was 61.78 percent, down from 79.39 percent in 2025. That is a drop of 17.60 percentage points in a single session, and it is the single most important piece of context for reading any 2026 result.

Two patterns stand out. The general examinations fell while the technical and vocational examinations rose, with TVEE Intermediate Level gaining more than eight points. And the fall at Advanced Level was four times steeper than at Ordinary Level.
School Candidates Against Private Candidates
The national figure hides the widest gap in the data. At Advanced Level, school candidates passed at 69.95 percent while external candidates passed at 42.55 percent. At Ordinary Level the split was 78.27 percent against 57.99 percent.
Both groups fell relative to 2025, but external candidates fell further. Advanced Level private candidates dropped from 64.99 percent to 42.55 percent, a fall of more than twenty two points. If you sat privately, that context matters when you judge your own result.

More than forty points separate denominational schools from private candidates. Very little of that is explained by the candidates themselves. It reflects teaching continuity, laboratory access, mock examination discipline, and how early a centre begins past paper work. A candidate who passed from a poorly resourced centre did more work for the same grade, and that is worth saying plainly.

South West led at 64.98 percent, with West and North West close behind. The three lowest were South at 55.47 percent, North at 49.19 percent, and Far North at 45.88 percent. Note the very different candidate volumes: Centre and Littoral each entered more than sixteen thousand candidates, while North and Far North together entered fewer than fifteen hundred.
At division level the range was wider still. Koung-Khi returned 88.89 percent, Manyu 80.38 percent, Bui 79.68 percent and Ndian 79.03 percent at the top. At the other end, Haut-Nyong returned 33.33 percent, Nyong-et-So’o 33.61 percent and Nyong-et-Kelle 34.25 percent. Among the large centres, Fako returned 64.87 percent, Mfoundi 62.86 percent, Mezam 62.20 percent and Wouri 59.49 percent.

This is where the 2026 session was decided. Subjects are ordered from the highest pass rate to the lowest.

The spread runs from 100 percent down to 21.14 percent. Two subjects with very large entries sat near the bottom: Pure Mathematics with Statistics, where 26,297 candidates sat and 20,738 did not pass, and Information and Communication Technology, where 29,252 sat and 19,934 did not pass. Economics carried the largest entry of the session at 32,036 candidates and returned 40.13 percent.
Chemistry deserves separate mention because of its weight in medical and science selection. Of 31,179 candidates, 15,106 passed and 16,431 did not. More candidates failed Chemistry in 2026 than passed it.
What the Subject Data Means for Your Combination
If you are choosing subjects for Lower Sixth. A combination containing two subjects from the bottom of that table carries real exposure. That is not a reason to avoid them, because Pure Mathematics and ICT open doors that other subjects do not, but it should be a deliberate choice with the revision time planned to match rather than a default one.
If you are planning a resit. Weight your months by where the marks were actually lost. A subject passing at around twenty percent nationally cannot be rescued in a final term. It has to be in the plan from the first month, and it needs volume of timed practice rather than more reading.
If you are presenting your grades. Admissions officers and scholarship panels read these sheets every year and know what each subject was worth in each session. A D in Pure Mathematics with Statistics in 2026 placed a candidate well inside the upper half of everyone who sat it. Keep a copy of the official statistics with your slip.
2026 Examination Malpractice
The Board recorded 2,792 malpractice cases in 2026, against 2,751 in 2025. The total barely moved, but the composition changed considerably.

Cases of candidates caught with pre-prepared material halved, from 2,028 to 1,010. Collusion and copy work almost tripled, from 542 to 1,580, and is now the largest single category. Mobile phones in the examination hall rose from 118 to 166.
Sanctions run from cancellation of a single subject result through cancellation of all results to bans of one or three years. A phone in the hall is not a minor infraction, and the penalty is measured in years rather than in one lost paper.
What to Do With a 2026 Result
If you passed. A smaller qualified cohort means state university faculties face a thinner field of applicants than in 2025. Apply promptly and apply broadly. Our guide to A Level results and the university and concours pathways maps grade profiles to faculties.
