Deciding Which Subjects to Resit
The most common resit mistake is registering for everything that went wrong. Candidates who enter five subjects to repair a bad session usually spread their revision so thin that they repeat the same result. Three questions narrow the list honestly.
Does the programme you want actually require this subject? A weak grade in a subject no faculty or concours on your list asks for is not worth a session of revision. Check the entry requirements first, then build the resit list backwards from them. English Language and Mathematics at O Level are the usual exceptions, because they gate almost everything downstream.
How far below the threshold did you land? A subject that missed by one grade normally needs technique work rather than relearning: timing, question interpretation, showing method marks. A subject that came back ungraded usually means the content itself was never secure, and that is a full term of work, not a polish.

Why the 2026 Session Makes Early Registration Matter
The 2026 results, released on 21 August 2026, produced an unusually large resit cohort. At Advanced Level 26,736 candidates did not pass, against a pass rate of 61.78 percent that fell from 79.39 percent the year before. At Ordinary Level a further 22,514 candidates did not pass.
That matters for you in one specific way: registration queues, centre capacity, and the availability of teachers for holiday classes are all under more pressure than in a normal year. Candidates who register in the first days of the window and book revision support early will have a straightforward session. Candidates who wait until the closing week may find their preferred centre full and the good tutors already committed.
It also means you are not an exception. A candidate resitting after 2026 is part of a very large group, most of whom sat the same papers under the same conditions. The result says something about the session as much as about you, and that is worth remembering when the disappointment is still fresh.
