Medical Concours: 4 to 8 Months

Minimum realistic prep: 4 months of daily study if you already hold strong A Level science grades and have completed the syllabus once.

Ideal prep: 6 to 8 months starting from Upper Sixth or first-year university science.

Medical concours timeline

• Months 6 to 5 out: Syllabus audit in Biology, Chemistry, Physics. Map past papers from the last five years. Identify high-frequency topics.
• Months 4 to 3 out: Begin timed past papers twice weekly. Start weakness log. Fix top gaps with topic drills.
• Months 2 to 1 out: Three to four full timed papers per week. Add exam-day simulation (start time, break timing, no phone).

Engineering Concours (ENSP, NAHPI, FET): 3 to 6 Months

Minimum: 3 months for candidates with strong A Level Pure Mathematics and Physics.

Ideal: 5 to 6 months including technical drawing or Chemistry components where required.

Engineering concours reward speed in Mathematics and Physics. Months one and two should rebuild core techniques: integration, vectors, mechanics, circuits. Months three to five are past paper heavy. Month six is simulation and error correction.

ENS Teacher Training: 3 to 6 Months

ENS requires balanced preparation across five papers, not just your main discipline. Candidates who prepare only Mathematics for four months and start general culture two weeks before the exam consistently underperform.

From month three, add 30 minutes daily of Cameroonian and international news reading for the culture paper. Allocate weekly sessions to your second subject and language paper from month one, not month five.

ENAM and IRIC: 4 to 6 Months

Administrative and international relations concours test analytical writing, current affairs, and language proficiency. Essay practice is as important as past papers. Start writing one timed essay per week from month four, increasing to three per week in the final month.

First-Time vs Repeat Candidates

First-time sitters need the full ideal timeline. You are learning the format, the pace, and the merit-list psychology for the first time.

Repeat candidates can compress preparation by 4 to 8 weeks if they already have a weakness log from the previous attempt. Focus exclusively on the papers and topics where you lost marks last time. Do not repeat a generic syllabus revision.

What If You Started Late?

If you have fewer than eight weeks and target medical concours, shift strategy:

1. Stop broad revision. Focus only on topics that appear in every past paper.
2. Sit one timed paper daily, mark immediately, fix only the top two weak topics each day.
