What ENSET Is and Why It Matters
The Ecole Normale Superieure de l’Enseignement Technique de Douala, known as ENSET,
trains teachers for Cameroon’s network of technical high schools (lycees techniques) and
vocational training centres. While ENS trains teachers for general secondary subjects like
Mathematics, English, and History, ENSET trains teachers for the technical and commercial
disciplines that produce Cameroon’s skilled workforce: Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering,
Industrial Technology, Computer Science, and Commercial subjects including Accounting and
Business Management.
The demand for qualified technical teachers in Cameroon is growing as the government expands
technical and vocational education infrastructure. ENSET graduates are the primary source of
certified teachers for this expanding system which means the career is more secure and in
higher demand than it has ever been. ENSET offers two cycles: Cycle Normal (for GCE Advanced
Level holders) and Cycle Special (for HND or Licence holders). Both admit through competitive
concours.
The ENSET Concours Structure
Main technical subject paper (4 hours, highest coefficient). The paper for your chosen
discipline Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or Commercial
subjects. This paper determines your result more than any other. It tests deep technical
knowledge and the ability to apply it to practical problems.
Mathematics (3 hours, high coefficient). Applied and pure mathematics relevant to technical
fields: calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, and numerical methods basics.
Physics/Applied Science (3 hours, high coefficient). Applied physics relevant to your
technical discipline. For Electrical Engineering, circuit theory and electromagnetic principles. For
Civil Engineering, mechanics of structures and materials. For Computer Science, electronics and
signal processing basics.
French/English (2 hours, medium coefficient). Formal written composition at a professional
register suitable for a technical teacher.
General culture (2 hours, medium coefficient). Current affairs, civic knowledge, and national
and international awareness.
What the ENSET Technical Papers Test: Discipline by Discipline
Electrical Engineering Technology
DC and AC circuit analysis (Kirchhoff’s laws, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, mesh and node
analysis, AC phasors and impedance), electrical machines (DC motors and generators
operating principles, torque equations, efficiency; AC induction motors equivalent circuit, slip,
torque-speed characteristics; transformers voltage regulation, efficiency), power systems
basics (single-phase and three-phase systems, power factor correction), control systems
fundamentals (open and closed loop, transfer functions, basic stability analysis), and electrical
installations (wiring regulations, load calculations, protection devices). Questions frequently
include circuit diagrams to be analysed or designed.
Civil and Building Engineering Technology
Structural analysis (statically determinate beams, trusses, and frames shear force and bending
moment diagrams, deflection calculations), materials science (properties of concrete, steel,
timber, and masonry stress-strain relationships, failure modes), construction methods
(foundation types and selection, formwork and reinforced concrete construction, masonry),
technical drawing interpretation (architectural and engineering drawings, section views, bar
bending schedules), and project management basics (programming of works, bill of quantities,
site organisation).
Computer Science (Informatique)
Algorithm design and analysis (flowcharts, pseudocode, sorting and searching algorithms,
complexity basics), programming (Pascal, C, or Python write correct programs from problem
statements, trace execution), database management (entity-relationship modelling, normalisation to third normal form, SQL queries with joins, subqueries, GROUP BY, and aggregate functions),
computer networks (OSI and TCP/IP models, IP addressing and subnetting, common protocols: HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS), and operating systems concepts (process management, memory
management, file systems, basic Linux commands).
Commercial Subjects (Accounting and Management)
Financial accounting using the Cameroonian SYSCOHADA plan (chart of accounts, journal
entries, ledgers, trial balance, income statement, balance sheet), cost accounting (job costing,
break-even analysis), business law (commercial law basics, company formation, contracts),
management principles (functions of management, organisational structures, HR management
basics), and commercial correspondence.

A Preparation Strategy for ENSET
Months 1-3 : Technical Subject Depth
Audit your knowledge against ENSET past papers. Identify where the papers go beyond your

Months 4-6: Timed Practice and Mathematics

Frequently Asked Questions About the ENSET Concours
Is ENSET only for candidates from Douala? No. ENSET is a national institution and candidates
from all regions of Cameroon can and do apply. You do not need to be from or have studied in
Douala.
Can I apply to both ENSET and ENS in the same year? In principle yes, provided exam dates
do not conflict. ENS and ENSET have different disciplinary profiles. Consider which teaching
