About the FET Buea Entrance Exam
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Buea runs a competitive entrance examination for its engineering programmes. Unlike the francophone grandes écoles, FET sits inside an anglophone university, so the papers are written in English and the expected background is the GCE Advanced Level rather than the Baccalauréat.
The concours is a selection exercise, not a qualifying one. A fixed number of places is available and candidates are ranked against each other, which means the mark that admits you one year may not admit you the next. That is precisely why past papers matter more here than revision notes: they show you the level the ranking is actually drawn at, which no syllabus can tell you.
Mathematics and Physics carry the paper. Candidates who have taken Further Mathematics generally find the mathematics section more comfortable — not because the topics are unfamiliar, but because the questions reward speed on techniques that Pure Mathematics alone covers more slowly.
Requirements and Preparation
Candidates are normally expected to hold GCE Advanced Level passes in Mathematics and Physics, with the exact combination depending on the department applied for. Registration windows and the current requirements are published by the University of Buea each year — confirm them from the university directly rather than from a group chat, because they move.
Preparation that works for FET has three parts.
Work past papers under time, not open-book. The concours is scored on what you finish, and most candidates who fail did not run out of knowledge — they ran out of minutes. Sit a full paper against the clock at least once a week.
